“It is not so much for its beauty that the forest makes a claim upon men’s
hearts, as for that subtle something, that quality of air, that emanation
from old trees, that so wonderfully changes and renews a weary spirit.”
Robert Louis Stevenson

Magical Walks & Camp-Fire Storytelling

Magical Guided Walks in the Woods

Guided walks by Flor, of magical and interesting places on the eco-farm and surrounding nature features like woods and the river. This includes an introduction to the Leave No Trace Principles of Outdoor Conduct, flora and fauna, and conservation efforts in the area.

Be introduced to our favourite trees and animals from the farm and neighbouring wilderness areas during guided walks by Flor.  During these informative and entertaining walks Flor weaves in some of the local and ancestral folklore, and invites you to connect with magical places and the stories that surround them.

These guided walks are suitable for kids, parents and groups of friends alike. No matter your particular interest in the farm, folklore, myth and legend, flora, fauna, and geology, Flor delights in sharing his knowledge with you.

Camp-fire Storytelling Nights

Join Flor for a sitting around the camp fire experience, enjoying, sharing and making stories. Held in the Hogan round house, the kitchen/dining cabin in the camp-site field. Why not involve some of your own stories, song, music and a good dose of craic!

No two camp-fire nights with Flor are the same, a true storyteller with a passion for sharing and listening to people in the way that only an Irishman can!  Each camp fire experience develops organically.  Be sure to tell Flor what interests your group the most.

Flor will even show you how to build and tend a proper camp fire. There might even be toasted marshmallows or camp-fire bread!

The Whole Experience

Why not combine the two experiences to create the Magical Walk & Camp Fire Night.

Go for a guided walk and then return to the Hogan to continue around the camp fire, perhaps drawing on your experiences of the walk to weave some new magical tales.

A great way to spend an evening and often a real treat for families and groups of friends. Also a great experience for ad hoc groups who have just met on site at Crann Og too!

Enjoy an evening with this consummate storyteller host.

Quests & Tours

Ask our resident bard Flor all about his 3 Crann Og Quests, woven together by him to take you on journeys into the countryside near and far to discover the important mystical, historical and literary sites and features…some of these well away from the well beaten tourist traps!

Quest 1:  Magical Rivers and Turloughs

Three rivers rising in the Sliabh Aughtys, an old red sandstone formation, and flowing towards the Atlantic.  But they disappear and reappear repeatedly once they reach the Burren Lowlands.  ‘Tis a mysterious land of limestone and turloughs with disappearing rivers and lakes, eventually finding their way to the Atlantic ocean.  Subject of poetry and prose, giving Gort Inse Guaire it’s name, and eventually arriving at King Guaire’s Castle in Kinvara.  Follow Flor’s secret River Quest to learn of deeper mysteries and secret places you wont find on the map!

Quest 2:  King Guaire

Learn of the great King Guaire and his famed generosity, and his relative St. Colman.  Find Kilmacduagh where Colman built one of the oldest monastic sites in Ireland, dating back to the 7th century.  Visit the monastery and round tower, the tallest one in existence at 34 metres, and with the greatest number of windows of any round tower in Ireland.  From here head into the Burren National Park to discover other hidden monastic sites.  Enjoy scenic walks in the Burren before being lead to the Burren Perfumery and the Hazel Mountain Chocolatiers!

Quest 3:  Irish Literary Revival

In the 1890’s the Irish literary revival commenced right here in south county Galway.  Lady Gregory and W. B. Yeats were inspired by the folklore of Kiltartan and neighbouring parishes, and the beauty of its incredible landscape.  Follow Flor’s third quest to discover Kiltartan Museum, Yeats Tower Thoor Ballylee, Lady Gregory and Coole Park Nature Reserve. Kiltartan contains furniture, memorabilia and documents pertaining to the Gregory family and the Irish literary renaissance.  A Quest back in time to Ireland’s modern literary revival.
