The Certification
Green Key is an internationally recognised eco-label covering environmental management, sustainability practices, waste reduction, water conservation, energy efficiency, and community and social responsibility. Certification is awarded following independent assessment and renewed annually.
The Alex received its first Green Key certification in 2021 and had it renewed in 2022, demonstrating continued performance rather than a one-time audit.
Sustainability Practices
The hotel’s Green Key practices cover the full operation. These include 100% recyclable materials, sensor-controlled lighting and heating, energy-efficient air conditioning in place of conventional central heating, locally sourced and fair trade food and coffee, sustainable toiletries sourced from local suppliers, and the elimination of single-use plastics in guest-facing operations.
The O’Callaghan Collection has moved to cashless operations across its hotels and phased in QR codes to replace paper menus and information materials.
