The Certification
Green Hospitality Gold is awarded under the Green Hospitality Programme, independently audited against documented criteria covering energy management, water usage, waste reduction, and environmental management systems. Gold certification requires demonstrated performance above the baseline Eco-Label standard.
The Maritime is also ISO 45000 accredited, the international standard for occupational health and safety management. While ISO 45000 is not an environmental certification, it reflects the level of documentation and management systems the hotel operates and complements the Green Hospitality Programme requirements.
Sustainability Practices
The hotel’s environmental management covers its core operations in practical, measurable ways. Water is purified using a seven-stage filtration system and served to guests in reusable glass bottles, eliminating single-use plastic water bottles across the property. A composting system processes food waste from the kitchen and restaurant operations. Energy management uses motion and timing sensors in unoccupied areas with energy-saving lighting throughout. The hotel has a written green procurement policy covering food sourcing and supply chain purchasing.

The Maritime Hotel is a 4-star property on the quayside in Bantry town, overlooking Bantry Bay. The bay is one of the largest natural harbours in Europe and sits at the heart of one of Ireland’s most scenically distinct areas. Bantry is the largest town in west Cork and serves as a base for exploring the Beara Peninsula (one of Ireland’s most remote Wild Atlantic Way routes), Glengarriff, Garnish Island, and the Mizen Head Peninsula.
