Monart Destination Spa
Certification: Green Hospitality Programme County: Wexford (Enniscorthy) Type: Adults-only destination spa, 100-acre woodland estate
Monart Destination Spa holds Green Hospitality Programme certification, independently assessed under Ireland’s hospitality sector environmental standard. The spa resort has built its sustainability programme around its 100-acre woodland estate, where the natural landscape is central to the guest experience and the ecological management programme.
The Certification
The Green Hospitality Programme is Ireland’s hospitality sector environmental standard, independently audited under ISO 17065. Certification requires the implementation of a documented Environmental Management System and performance assessment across energy, water, waste, biodiversity, and community engagement. For a woodland estate spa, biodiversity and land management are particularly relevant assessment criteria.
The Spa and Estate
Monart is an adults-only destination spa set on 100 acres of mature woodland near Enniscorthy, County Wexford. The resort has 70 rooms and suites, a 23,000 sq ft thermal spa, and extensive formal gardens and woodland walks. It is part of the Griffin Group.
Monart was Ireland’s first purpose-built destination spa when it opened in 2006 and has consistently held five-star Fáilte Ireland ratings. The spa concept is built around immersion in the woodland landscape: the thermal pools, outdoor hot tubs, and woodland relaxation areas all use the natural environment as their setting. The estate’s ecological health is therefore integral to the spa experience, reinforcing the logic of its sustainability programme.
