The Hotel and Setting

Slieve Donard Resort & Spa is a 5-star Victorian hotel at the foot of Slieve Donard, the highest of the Mourne Mountains, on the seafront at Newcastle, County Down. The hotel was built in 1898 by the Belfast and County Down Railway and has 180 rooms, a spa, and extensive grounds connecting to both the beach and the mountain base.

The Mourne Mountains are designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and Slieve Donard (852m) is the most visible peak in the range, rising directly behind the hotel. The hotel overlooks Dundrum Bay and has direct beach access. The Mountains of Mourne have inspired literature, music, and art for generations and remain one of Ireland’s most celebrated natural landscapes.
