Wintry Renovations 2015/16

Wintry Renovations 2015/16

New & Fresh

It’s been a busy winter for us 2015/16 renovating our Long House cabins and bathroom.  We have renovated and redecorated the cabins, replaced the beds and all new linen.

We have replaced one of our showers and added econo-taps to our showers and basins to further enhance our sustainability, reducing our water consumption yet further.

In addition we have renovated the main house and Yoga studio in preparation for a very busy year ahead.

We look forward to giving everyone a very warm welcome to Crann Og Eco Farm in 2016.

Forest School Pilot Project

Forest School Pilot Project

October 2015

Throughout the month of October we hosted a big bunch of enthusiastic kids for Marion’s Pilot Forest School Program.  This is to complete Marion’s certification as a Forest School Trainer.

Interest in the pilot program was strong and we were full to the brim with kids eager to learn and play in nature.  It was a joy for us all who took part to watch the kids open to the process and become more comfortable playing, learning and being in nature.  We noticed we had a few adult hangers on too, as the classes slipped by!

The kids learned about all sorts of stuff like:

  • shelter building
  • fire making
  • tree identification
  • wildlife watching and tracking
  • connecting with plants and trees
  • playing and sculpting with mud
  • playing with water
  • forest playground with low ropes, swings and climbing poles
  • blindfolded and animal mimikry games
  • camouflage and stalking

The program was such a great success and was enjoyed by all….and not just the kids!  Visit our Nature School page for our full program of kids and teens nature schooling in 2016.  We kick off in March 2016.

Crann Og Goes Gold

Crann Og Goes Gold

Gold Certified Eco Tourism

We are excited to announce we have just been re-certified by Eco Tourism Ireland as a Gold Certified Ecotourism Operator as of July 2015. This is recognised by the The International Ecotourism Society.

This is a real achievement for us and comes after many years of hard work and creativity. Many thanks to Mary Mulvey and Lorraine Grainger of Eco Tourism Ireland for their encouragement and advice throughout the years.

We previously held Silver Certification for our Kids Eco Yoga Day from 2012 to 2014. This new higher certification encompasses all of our activities here at Crann Og Eco Farm and recognises our strong interpretive environmental ethos and reuse, recycling and reduce practices.

Gold Certification ensures our visitors ‘that green means green’! And we also have this new website!

Many many thanks to all the friends and volunteers who have helped over the years to make Crann Og Eco Farm what it is today, we could not have done it without you all!
