Yoga with Marion

The System

Marion practices and teaches the Satyananda Yoga System. The Satyananda Yoga teachings are based on the Tantric system, which is one of the oldest sciences’ and philosophies of man exploring the process of expansion of mind, energy and consciousness.

Satyananda Yoga is a very holistic system, developing body, mind and spirit. The key is awareness and equanimity as one moves deeper inwards to get in touch with ones true nature, rather than the identification with the conditioned personality.

The benefits for the physical body are more a welcomed side effect rather than it’s purpose. Most exercises are done with eyes closed to bring the attention inside and moving in synchronicity with the breath to support and enhance the flow of life force energy (Prana).

Who Can Do It?

Satyananda Yoga allows everybody, young and old, fit and not so fit to participate together, yet individually choosing the aspects or the depth of each practise that suits personal needs.

For example a physically well able person can also get a lot out of a gentle class by focusing more on the mental awareness which could turn simple movements into a meditative practise.

The beginner focuses more on the body, hence sharpening awareness while developing strength, flexibility and stamina.

As body and mind grow more into union ( Yoga means union of body and mind) the poses and practises will become stronger and deeper.

A Gentle Yoga class consists of gentle Asanas, basic Pranayama, Relaxation and Yoga Nidra.

Satyananda Yoga encompasses:

  • Asanas – physical postures and exercises
  • Pranayama – various breathing techniques to stimulate or calm the energy body
  • Relaxation & Visualisation – stress relieving and restorative
  • Yoga Nidra – guided Meditation to release unconscious tension and transform the mind
  • Pratyahara – sense withdrawal
  • Dhyana – concentration,focusing the mind
  • Dharana – Meditation
  • Yamas and Niyamas – practise of universal moral principals and personal disciplines

Classes build up the Asanas systematically, gradually and gently with awareness of the whole being using the breath as the bridge between the body and the mind.

The student will learn the fundamental practises to protect the spine improving mobility, coordination and health through core exercises that strengthen the abdominal muscles. Enhanced flexibility of the spine helps to alleviate conditions like tension headache, backache, bad posture and lack of energy.

Through Relaxation techniques the student learns how to release stress and restore energy. Visualisation helps to create positive thinking.

Body and breath awareness are integral parts to enter the Here and Now, preparing for more subtle practises on the inner journey to meet ones own pure essence.

The Continuation class works with moderate to challenging Asanas (everybody according to their own needs, no pressure, no competing), more complex Pranayamas and an introduction to Meditation practises.

The Advanced class is for the experienced student with a deeper understanding of Yoga and Meditation as well as a fit and able body to explore stronger as well as subtler postures and practises.

Meditation

Meditation is a method to attain Health and Happiness

In her meditation classes Marion teaches a variety of techniques that gradually bring the practitioner from gross to subtler vibrations aiming to transcend the mind.  These techniques stem from the ancient Tantric tradition of mind expansion.

Why Meditate?

Through meditation we can expand our consciousness by guiding our conscious, waking mind from the external into our own inner world.  Here we can connect with the layers of our subconscious mind and realise the difference between our ego and the higher self.

Through regular practice we can untangle and reprogram the conditionings and limitations of our ego mind and expand our awareness into the higher levels of consciousness.

These subtle vibrations allow us to perceive higher knowledge and truth, intuition and inspiration that are essential to reach our full unique potential, and hence bring forth wellbeing and contentment.

The closer we get to our true self the more authentic and powerful we become, as we are able to live our material and our spiritual life without conflict.

Marion Edler-Burke

In Ireland

Marion settled in Ireland in 1988 after leaving Germany to find a place to follow her dreams of a more natural and fulfilling lifestyle, at what has since become Crann Og Eco Farm. Marion started developing Crann Og as it is today after being joined by her partner Flor Burke in 1998. Together they started the vision of Crann Og in 1999. Marion’s skills encompass the areas of nature, education, health and creativity with the natural world. Today Marion is Crann Og’s busiest instructor.  Marion is a mother of two adult children and a grandmother of two.

Education & Teaching

Marion completed her degree in Social Pedagogy in 1986 in the Fachhochschule Düsseldorf, encompassing social education including sociology, politics, psychology, philosophy, as well as introduction into music, sports & art therapies

Marion has been a contributor to the local community since 1990, working as a volunteer at the Orchard Centre Gort for two years and then commencing Yoga Teacher Training in the Satyananda Yoga Centre Galway in 1994. She started teaching yoga in 1996 in Gort, Ennis, Tulla and Kinvara. She has been teaching yoga ever since and has completed the additional training module Yoga for Children (2006), and teacher in-service training in Pregnancy Yoga and Yoga for Mental Health.

Kids Yoga

Commenced teaching Yoga to children age 4 to 12 in Holistic Healing Centre, Gort, in 2008 and developed Kids Eco Yoga Days at Crann Og in 2011. This program was Certified Silver by Eco Tourism Ireland in 2012. Marion is Guarda Vetted and holds a Tusla Child Protection Certificate.

Nature Therapy & Nature School

Marion is a member of the BurrenBeo Trust and regularly attends training courses and events such as the “Learning Landscape Symposium” (2013) and “Place Based Learning” (2015). Further enhancing her work combining her awareness of body, mind and connection with nature, Marion gained certification as a Forest School Leader in 2016 (Open College Network West Midlands: Level 3).

In 2016 Marion gained certification as a Nature Therapy Guide with the Association of Forest and Nature Therapy Guides. This certification amalgamates much of the work Marion has been doing since starting Crann Og in different disciplines, enabling her to bring together the best of each perspective and infuse them into all of the different ways she works with children and adults alike.

Other Interests

Throughout the development of Crann Og Marion has also trained in other disciplines including Reiki Seichim, Polarity and Earth Energies. Furthermore she is responsible for much of the development of orchards, raised bed vegetable gardens, polytunnels, a glass house, developing wild gardens and planting trees. Not too mention contributing to the management of a small though enthusiastic menagerie of animals.

Marion has also developed her skills and knowledge of Natural Horsemanship and is a strong advocate of this approach. She would like to do more work involving horses and people from a nature therapy and horse consciousness perspective.

Languages

She is a native German and fluent English speaker, with a bit of Irish too!
