Pink Apple Orchard holds Ecotourism Ireland Gold certification. It is a family-run glamping retreat near the tip of Lough Allen in County Leitrim, built by hand from locally sourced materials and operated on a no-WiFi policy. It is one of very few certified eco glamping properties in Connacht and the only Gold-certified option in Leitrim.
The Certification
Ecotourism Ireland Gold is assessed against the criteria of the Sustainable Tourism Network (formerly Sustainable Travel Ireland), GSTC-recognised as equivalent to international sustainability standards. Gold certification requires documented environmental management, biodiversity practices, community engagement, and verified performance across energy, water, and waste. Pink Apple Orchard has maintained this certification through audit and renewal.
Accommodation
The property includes handcrafted Celtic-inspired yurts, a Hobbit House with a grass roof, a tipi, and a gypsy wagon. All structures were built on-site from locally sourced materials. Each yurt marries the form of a Mongolian yurt with a Celtic roundhouse aesthetic.
Eco-dry composting toilets operate across the site. There is no WiFi on the property, a policy that reflects the retreat’s emphasis on outdoor living, nature connection, and disconnection from digital life during a stay.
The Setting
Drumkeeran is a small village near the southern tip of Lough Allen, Leitrim’s largest lake. The Iron Mountains and the broader Leitrim landscape of drumlins, lakes, and quiet roads form the context for the retreat. Leitrim is one of Ireland’s least visited counties and one of its most undiminished rural landscapes. Pink Apple Orchard is located within that landscape rather than at a remove from it.
